How to find the correct text for the default._domainkey DNS record for each domain

Hello,
I’d like to know how to set up the default._domainkey DNS record value correct value for any of my domains.

How to find the correct value and how to test if it’s working.
Thanks!

There is no such “default” value.

You get both the name and the value of the DKIM record from your email provider.

After you have set up your DNS records by following your email providers guidance, you can test if it is working here: https://www.mail-tester.com

Thanks for the prompt response @Laudian.
So, please let me know how to proceed in these two scenarios:

1- Using an email routing rule to receive everything in an external email (i.e: google email service) and sending emails from such a service.

2- Setting up an email account with my hosting provider and using that account to receive and send emails.
(I guess from your previous response that in this case I’d have to ask my provider for the necessary records to add:)

Email Routing automatically sets up the records you need for receiving emails. You can’t use it to send emails in any way. I would recommend against using Email Routing, as forwarding is not very reliable.

That is correct. You get all the required records from your email provider.

Thanks a lot @Laudian.
Is there a proper way to be able to forward emails via Email Routing and use the “Send mail as” function from a Gmail account?

You need an outbound email service to use the “Send mail as” function in gmail, which Cloudflare does not offer, so no.

Awesome @Laudian thanks for the great answers!
So, I’ll try to use the hosting provider email to be able to send emails via Gmails Send email as feature.

Quick simple question:
in Cloudflare I should remove the MX records pointing to Cloudflare and add the new ones from the hosting provider. Right?

Tips and suggestions:
If you have any points to properly set up email addresses this way in order to avoid any wrong spam detections I’d really appreciate it.
By the way, emails would only be use to send one on one emails, not for newsletters or multiple recipients or BCC recipients.

When you disable Email Routing, the Cloudflare MX records should be removed automatically. If that doesn’t happen, remove them, yes.

Set your email up according to whatever instructions your hosting provider has for you. There’s nothing else to it.
