Hi - I run a PPC firm. My client is completely un-technical. Their website has stopped loading - the domain is registered with GoDaddy, and the nameservers are pointing to Cloudflare. The owner of the domain has no idea who they placed the hosting with. It is likely a 3rd party “hosting company”, that ultimately used Cloudflare for the hosting… How can I find out who the 3rd party company is that is handling the hosting, that placed the hosting for this domain with Cloudflare. it looks like something didn’t get paid, and that is why the page isn’t loading… it looks like an unpaid bill… Domain registration is good for another year… 522 Error - see screen shot
It is unlikely Cloudflare is the host (unless the developer used the Cloudflare Developer platform, very different from traditional hosting). Cloudflare is most commonly a proxy sitting in front of the real host to protect and accelerate the site.
You may be able to determine the host from the IP addresses. You will need to log into the Cloudflare account for the domain to find that out. If the client does not know, try the “Forgot your email” option at https://dash.cloudflare.com which will email the account owner.
Thanks so much for your help. So I have a Free Cloudflare account and the Domain is showing there - the DNS shows an IP address that points to Ionos… 74.208.156.140
I have called Ionos, but they say they have no record of the domain name being hosted there - trying to get them to look at deleted accounts? Maybe the client never paid the invoice, and didn’t see notifications
I was also looking for something similar and came across this tool named
It was helpful and I was able to find the Previous Hosting Provider details successfully by just providing the domain name to it, it was pretty straightforward and gave details of DNS and also WHOIS database
