How to change nameservers after transferring domain registrar to Cloudflare?

My domain currently points to digitalocean, as it was before transfer. Now that I transfered domain to Cloudflare how do I change nameservers to Cloudflare so that I can use Cloudflare protection?

Your nameservers should have pointed to Cloudflare before you transferred it. If they currently do not there is a good chance your registrar changed them during the transfer. You will need to contact support to have them changed ->

They were pointing to DigitalOcean, which are Cloudflare’s. I guess that’s were the issue arose. Maybe call in @SamRhea.

There was no warning that indicates I should have changed before transfer. So I can’t change them on my own, now? I think Cloudflare’s domain system is pretty novice at the moment. For instance, they charged me for domain transfer twice and now they don’t return to my support ticket for 7 or 8 days. I always liked Cloudflare and used them in my business things as well in a different account. There can be glitches, I’d forgive charging 2 times but cannot forgive not writing back to support ticket, that is irresponsible.

You couldnt have initiated the transfer without the domain being active, which would imply the nameservers were properly set.

Whats the domain?

It was and is active but not pointing to Cloudflare. It is pointing to digitalocean, now I want to update nameservers so that I can use Cloudflare services.

Well, for Cloudflare you need to change your nameservers. In your case the domain never was active on Cloudflare and I am surprised you could transfer it. In any case, you need to contact support.

It was pointing to Cloudflare before I changed it after some problem. Anyway thanks for help, I hope support team will be able to answer this time.

The cloudflare API has Update Domain method to change name servers.
Here are the cURL example:

curl -X PUT "" \
     -H "X-Auth-Email: [email protected]" \
     -H "X-Auth-Key: c2547eb745079dac9320b638f5e225cf483cc5cfdda41" \
     -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
     --data '{"name_servers":["",""],"privacy":true,"locked":false,"auto_renew":true}'

Please note that only support legacy API key, not token.
