You can’t “change” a domain name, you will just need to buy the other domain as well. If you don’t want the original name, make sure that it is not set to auto-renew and it will expire when the period you paid for is up.
Although if you have a .com, you may want to keep the .net and redirect it to your .com domain to protect your name.
