How to add an ZTNA app for free in “Access” without entering credit card detail

What is the issue you’re encountering

When i registered and logged in as a Super Admin upon invitation from another Cloudflare Super Admin user, I intended to use the “Access” section within “Zero Trust.” However, I encountered an issue when selecting the “Zero Trust Free” plan; I was prompted to enter my credit card and other payment details in the “Payment method” section. Why do i need to enter Credit card information as the Main Super Admin has already registered his Credit card and selected the plan.

I assume Cloudflare isn’t the same as Cloudflare One, rather separated products and dashboards.

Nevertheless, this might happen because Cloudflare’s Zero Trust Free plan is tied to an individual Cloudflare account rather than a shared Cloudflare account/team billing. Even though the main Super Admin has already added their credit card and selected a plan, when you, as another Super Admin (member), try to enable Zero Trust Free on their CF account, Cloudflare still asks for your own payment details.

Hopefully, you didn’t provided your Credit Card onto some 3rd-party Cloudflare access where you’re added as a memer with Super Admin rights?

Please, make sure to double-check this so you don’t get possible fraud or abuse of your credit card later if the team decides to remove you or something happens and you lost access, therefrom the attacker abuses this Zero Trust team.
Cross-check and make sure they (the other owner) adds their payment informatioin to their ZT team/account.

I cannot confirm with 100% that Cloudflare may require a credit card to verify identity, even for free plans. Even though the primary Super Admin has their payment info stored, Cloudflare treats each admin’s Zero Trust setup as independent.
If you personally haven’t activated Zero Trust before, Cloudflare might see this step as a “new” subscription under your account.

To conclude, here are your options:

  1. If you only need to manage Zero Trust policies but don’t need your own Zero Trust setup, ask the primary Super Admin to configure everything for you and grant access (the best and safest way to go).
  2. If you do need to configure Zero Trust settings yourself, you’ll need to add a credit card, even if no charges apply (free plan type).
  3. Contact Cloudflare Support and ask if they can enable Zero Trust without requiring additional credit cards under your organization’s billing (I doubt, but might be worth of try?)

Thank you for your detailed response. Really appreciate it!
Cloudflare promotes its Zero Trust service as a free offering for up to 50 users. However, as this is an individual member service, each user is required to provide their credit card information:( Wondering how can you do user/group association ( there is a group config under Access or network I think) and apply policies on the Group which is normally done with other ZTNA providers like Check Point or Palo or Forti etc .

Regarding the options you mentioned:

  1. If you only need to manage Zero Trust policies without setting up your own Zero Trust environment, I recommend asking the primary Super Admin to configure everything for you and grant access. This is the best and safest approach.
Any advice on how to configure this? I attempted to adjust some settings when inviting a new user using the Primary Super Admin account, but when I log in as the new user, I cannot see any Zero Trust configurations set up by the Primary Super Admin. Additionally, clicking on Apps redirects me back to the "select plan and credit card page.
  2. Consider contacting Cloudflare Support to inquire if they can enable Zero Trust without requiring additional credit cards under your organization’s billing. While I doubt this will be possible, it might be worth a try.
Sounds good! I will open a new case and provide updates here based on their response.
