I am using Cloudflare’s Free plan and have a domain called “example.com” registered with Cloudflare. I would like to enable the proxy for my DNS records. However, I have some subdomains with multiple levels, such as “app.dev.example.com” and “app.qa.example.com”.
To use the proxy on these subdomains, do I need to upgrade to the Business plan and upload certificates for each subdomain, or would using the Advanced Certificate Manager resolve this issue?
Any guidance on how to properly configure proxies for multi-level subdomains on the Free plan would be greatly appreciated.
What feature, service or problem is this related to?
DNS records
What are the steps to reproduce the issue?
When I enable the proxy to subdomains apper this mensagem “This hostname is not covered by a certificate.”
Cloudflare’s Universal SSL certificate doesn’t cover deep subdomain as from your example a.b.example.com as described here:
Yes, correct.
You’d have to purchase Advanced Certificate Manager and then click on the button “order” and add your app.dev.example.com and any other deep-level sub-domains there to generate an SSL certificate and to make them work over a proxied DNS.
You don’t need toi purchase a Pro plan, only this subscription for your existing Free plan.
