When I use network-tools.com it reports http://springfield-ohio-post.com as not having an A record (the record that has been working fine up until this morning).
The same occurs when tracerouting https version (also worked fine till this morning)
Other anomalies have been that firefox and chromium browsers both render my page without the css applied.
Is something going on with cloudflare?
The test you’re using in the screenshot is failing because you only need to put the hostname and not a full URL there, so it should be springfield-ohio-post.com.
As for the css issue, it looks like you’re trying to load files like /mystyles.css and /favicon.png over HTTP, while you’re visiting with HTTPS. So it’s just a simple case of changing those asset URLs in your source to have HTTPS instead of HTTP
