How do I add an SOA record?

What is the name of the domain?

What is the issue you’re encountering

Don’t understand how to add an SOA record

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

Looking at pixata.co.uk Domain Health, I see a warning “SOA Serial Number Format is Invalid” and would like to fix it. It seems I need to add an SOA record, but cannot find out how to do this.

I have searched around, including a Cloudflare article on the subject (https://www.cloudflare.com/en-gb/learning/dns/dns-records/dns-soa-record/) but am no wiser.

Anyone able to advise?

What feature, service or problem is this related to?

DNS records

Just ignore that, there is no such thing as a valid serial number format. Also, you can’t do anything to change it.

@Laudian Thanks for the reply.

Bit surprised, as if there is no such thing, why is mxtoolbox warning about it?

Thanks again

That’s a very good question that I don’t have an answer to.

Most SOAs use a timestamp for the serial number, but there is no rule that you have to.

I saw the same warning on my site. You can’t manually add or change SOA records if you’re using a managed DNS provider like Cloudflare — they handle it automatically. The “SOA Serial Number Format is Invalid” warning can safely be ignored.
