High Waiting Time for contents cached by Cloudflare?

Hello,

I see high waiting time for contents which are cached by Cloudflare on many website speed tests. Is that normal?

I am aware that contents which are not cached by Cloudflare may cause this, especially if my web host is slow and far from the user’s location, but here we are talking about the contents which are properly cached by Cloudflare.

I suppose, such contents should not have any impact due to my web host. So, if that’s a yes, then how come I see high waiting time often?

I have another site which is also having Cloudflare Argo subscription. That site is often fast but I still see high waiting time at times and it is quite common when I do tests in webpagetest.org.

Is there anything I can do to solve it? I am not sure if a cached content also requires optimization?

P. S. The complete page is also cached by Cloudflare. Everything shows- cf-cache-status: HIT

Greetings,

Thank you for asking.

May I ask, if the AutoOptimize is a plugin which is updating and re-generating the CSS each time on the request, therefore for the each “speed test” has to generate a new one since the “speed test tool” is some kind of a script/bot and not a real visitor?

Usually it helps with the latency a lot, at least in my case.

May I ask if you’ve tried out any other tools for speed test online as well?

Are you on a shared hosting, or?

On the Cloudflare dashboard, under the Speed tab, there are quite a lot of options to play a bit with. However, might depend which are available to use regarding the Cloudflare plan which we’re using (free or paid one).

May I ask if this relates to the JS/CSS/image resources, or even for the HTML, meaning you’re using some kind of a Page Rule with the Cache Everything feature as well?

Might be the TTFB as well, but hm …
