Generally, your ISP controls the proxy location. Separate from that, Ping does not measure website performance. There are plenty of tools that will give you a more accurate assessment, such as GTMetrix, Pingdom, and WebPageTest, though I often use fastorslow.com

But, first, please verify the actual “colo” you’re routing through by visiting example.com/cdn-cgi/trace

Maybe cloudflare.com/cdn-cgi/trace better, people may confuse why example.com/cdn-cgi/trace is not working (as it’s not on Cloudflare).

I should have been more clear that they should replace “example.com” with their actual domain name. If they type in cloudflareDOTcom, that’s effectively an Enterprise plan that gets priority in every datacenter and might not reflect the actual location their plan level uses.
