Getting support to tell us which email controls our account?

Hello, I took over the maintenance of a site that appears to use Cloudflare. This information wasn’t documented in our setup. I cannot find the email controlling that account. I’ve tried the recovery procedure, but I haven’t received a mail in the few mail boxes I’ve checked. I have no idea which email we might have used internally to register this account.

I can transfer the domain it to a new Cloudflare account, but then I won’t know what settings or even subscription it uses. It would be much better for us to recover it.

I’ve tried mailing support AT Cloudflare DOT com, but it answers by saying I need to open a ticket with the email owning the account…

Isn’t there a way to get someone to tell us which email is associated with our account?

Thanks.

The one and only way Cloudflare will send you information of that nature is if you try the “Forgot Your Email” link from the dashboard login page. Then you’ll have to figure out where that email goes.

That’s unfortunate. In some scenarios it’s very unpractical. There are plenty of reasons that might cause an email not end up in a mailbox. So it makes the task of identifying the login mail akin to searching for a needle in a haystack.

And moving to a new domain is risky for a live site and will cause loss of information.

I’d recommend searching all the possible mailboxes for past emails from Cloudflare (email confirmation, zone added notifications). That way you can figure out the account email, even if you’re currently experiencing mail delivery problems.

Thanks albert. I’ve done that. So far no luck.

If Cloudflare doesn’t want to provide human support for this, they could create some system where they would send the id of the email to another email we supply them (e.g. through some sort of DNS backed configuration).

Cloudflare will not disclose PII even with verification of the domain. What if that was a previous owner, someone else bought the domain and can now get access to the previous email and other info… doesn’t seem like a good idea. Even a support engineer won’t be able to do this.

The way it’s currently done is really the only way to do this while ensuring user privacy.

The tool is often used when checking the email logs for an entire domain so you can see where it was sent.

OK thanks a lot for taking the time to give a detailed explanation. I didn’t find that level of details in the messages I found earlier. Merry Christmas to all.
