In the past 48 hours I’ve received two emails from CF telling me that there has been a spike in 521 errors from my domain. I have an unusual setup, because my actual website is superfein.design but my business email domain from Google Workspace is superfeincreative.com. I’m no longer hosting superfeincreative.com anywhere, so instead I’m managing the DNS from CF and proxying the A and record which is pointing to my superfein.design domain. The 521 errors are occurring from the “origin server”, so my question for the forum is: considering my setup, is the origin server where my website is hosted, or the Google Workspace server? Do I need to get in touch with Google or my web host to try to resolve this? I should mention that emails are still being delivered, so far it doesn’t appear to be impacting email delivery.

Error 521 occurs when the origin web server refuses connections from Cloudflare. Security solutions at your origin may block legitimate connections from certain Cloudflare IP addresses.

As a resolution, Contact your site administrator or hosting provider to eliminate these common causes:

• Ensure your origin web server is responsive
• Review origin web server error logs to identify web server application crashes or outages.
• Confirm Cloudflare IP addresses are not blocked or rate limited
• Allow all Cloudflare IP ranges in your origin web server’s firewall or other security software
• Confirm that — if you have your SSL/TLS mode set to Full or Full (Strict) — you have installed a Cloudflare Origin Certificate
