Gateway Setup

Ok I followed all of the instructions on the Gateway setup docs. I added the Warp app to my Mac Mini and also to my Android Pixel 5, and I downloaded and added the cloudflare certificate. I then logged in to teams with both apps and they sent me a code to verify. Both devices are visible in my account.

I created a test policy. That test policy blocked twitter.com

I tested the test policy and it gave me the blocked screen on android in an incognito window in chrome, but in the normal browser it didn’t work, and on my mac in safari (both normal and incognito) it didn’t give me the blocked screen and displayed instead twitter.com.

I am not sure what to do now to make sure it is working correctly.

Can some one help me with the cofiguration from this point. Not sure where to go from here.

I just started using gateway so I am a complete beginner. I have used a VPN in the past and it is helpful not just for security, but also to choose my location.

I have two questions:

  1. Is there a simple way to setup a proxy with cloudflare gateway? I want to use the Warp app, but I want to have my location display based upon a proxy location. Is this something that comes with Cloudflare gateway or something I have to configure myself?

  2. Is it possible to use cloudflare gateway with the Warp app, along with an app like NordVPN so that my DNS is encrypted through cloudflare but I can change my location using NordVPN?

Hi @robert.seitzberg, we plan to add support for choosing your Warp egress location (colo) in the future.

We just released split tunneling so you can configure which traffic you’d like to go through the tunnel created with the NordVPN app.

On the issue with Twitter, the policy takes a few seconds to propagate and your browser might have the result cached. That’s usually the problem if you get the intended behavior in incognito mode but not in a normal session.

For the moment I’d suggest disabling the custom block page option in the settings for your location(s) if you are doing L7 inspection. This can lead to inconsistent behavior that is being addressed.

Thanks for the reply. As you can see in the attached screenshot I don’t know how to finish setting things up.

I am not sure where to start. The documentation doesn’t seem to be complete and I don’t even know what Cloudflare Gateway can and can not do. What is the “Gateway Resolver” and what is the “Gateway Proxy”?

How do I go from that status page saying “your network is not secured by Cloudflare Gateway” to it saying it is secured?

I have it setup on my Mac using the Warp app

Are there step by step tutorials that explain what Gateway does, what it doesn’t do and how to configure all of this? I have looked at the documentation but like I said it feels a little incomplete.

What do you mean by the warp egress location? Sorry I am a technical person, but most of this is way above my head. I’m a front end web designer who is learning a little bit of backend web design, but I want to secure my network from threats and maximize the security of my buisness across multiple devices.

Any help for a newbie would be great. Any courses that explain everything? Youtube Videos?

I have the warp app running and it says that it is connected to Cloudflare for Teams, but I really don’t know what it is doing for me. I know in theory that it should be encrypting my DNS and logging all of the DNS requests from my computer but other than that I really don’t know what it is doing especially since I can’t even get it to block specific websites.

Any newbie help or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

Is there an ETA on when this might be fixed so that I can start using page blocking again?
