For my domain entry I see CNAME flatterning message next to my CNAME

For my domain DNS entry, I see “Another record shares the same name, so we’ve applied CNAME flattering” message next to my CNAME record.

I have checked and I don’t have a duplicate value or any other A record to the same entry.

What may be the possible cause?

Thank you in advance.

You most likely do, but without seeing your DNS screen, there’s not much we can suggest. If you can post a screenshot of the error message, along with all your DNS entries, we can offer some assistance. It’s ok to block out IP addresses for privacy.

I’m quire sure that’s not all your DNS entries. There are usually some “A” and TXT records as well.

I had one A record and based on this flattening message I deleted those but that flattening message didn’t went.

I have hence sent you screenshot of the header included till the next section.

Also the www is only working for the root site not for the other pages added. for example Privacy Policy doesn’t work while this Privacy Policy works.

any suggestion on how to fix that?

Thank you again for responding and helping with the issue.

Your support is much appreciaed.

Unrelated to the CNAME issue, but your encryption mode won’t be really secure.

Your server neither has a valid certificate for your domain nor is the hostname you pointed to part of the certificate (which could be the only exception in this case). You might want to fix the certificate and make sure your encryption mode is “Full strict”.

It’s possible it’s due to two CNAMEs pointing to the same hostname, but that really doesn’t make sense.

It’s better to,pick just one for the main URL, then use a Page Rule to forward the other one to the proper one, such as in this tutorial:

sdayman Thank you again for your suggestion on using the page rule. I have removed the www CNAME and added the page rule for it to go to root site.

With regards to the CNAME Flattening message. what will be issue if that doesn’t disappear?

sandro thank you for your suggestion about setting up the Full strict encryption mode. however I don’t have the certificate for the host to add. I will get them and then change that mode.

CNAME flattening is normal behavior for Cloudflare for :orange: proxied hostnames and the apex domain ( It’s just a FYI message.

sdayman Thanks for your response. I got it now as I can also see the same message on another domain with :orange: proxied hostnames. I am ok now as the website is working.
