I’m having some major DNS issues when trying to configure Cloudflare through Bluehost for my domain noisypixel.net. Let me just say that at first, I attempted to set up through a Cloudflare account, which is when I submitted the nameservers, etc. However, Bluehost informed me that it would be much easier to just set it up through their cPanel add-on so I paused service and activated it on my Bluehost cPanel. Now, everything is broken and Bluehost doesn’t seem to have a clue.
Here is a picture of my DNS record currently on Bluehost. I’ll add that when I transferred to Bluehost’s cPanel add-on Cloudfare now tells me that I can’t edit the DNS records through my portal on their site so I’m left with dealing with it on Bluehost, which is good I guess to have it all in one place.
I swear I’ve been working on this and trying to get it set up for eight hours now, I’m totally going to write a piece on my experience in hopes that it never happens to anyone again.
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you for your time.
Your name servers still point to Cloudflare. It may be broken because you’ve essentially double-activated Cloudflare. Either change the name servers back to Bluehost, or deactivate Cloudflare on your Bluehost account.
So I paused Cloudflare, deactivated the nameservers, and then turned back on the service. Would I still need to update the nameservers or should they stay pointed at Bluehost? Cloudflare didn’t give me any this time as I turned it out through the cPanel so I’m guessing I should just leave it?
It’s not saying that you don’t have name servers. It’s just that they’re not Cloudflare name servers, which is expected since you’re using the Bluehost setup.
So I’ve been going back and forth with Bluehost support, the usual story, one doesn’t know anything so you have to keep going back until you get a support person who understands your situation, and it seems everything is on track to be working.
However, nothing I’ve done so far has changed this alert that I’m “Not on Cloudflare”:
That’s domain registration, and is expected. Most of my domains registrations aren’t with Cloudflare, so my registration status for them say the same thing.
