What is the issue you’re encountering
I setup “Custom Hostname” test.ffhelper.com
to point to test1.valueents.com
by adding a CNAME pointing to test1. valueents .com
. It’s all green saying “Certificate status” is Active and “Hostname status” active. When I navigate to https://test.ffhelper.com/
it get the message Error 1014 CNAME Cross-User Banned
. The domain ffhelper .com
is on GoDaddy (no my Cloudflare account), and I do not want to move the DNS to Cloudflare. How to fix?

Serving static websites from R2 via Custom Hostnames - How to fix Error 1014?
What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?
Hi,
I need help with the following setup. I want to create a site-builder for non-profits, so Cloudflares zero CDN egress fees is great for our use-case.
I want to host the end-user’s static website on R2. I uploaded the html file to R2, linked it to a “Custom Domain” on our domain (currently test <dot> valueents <dot> com
which works fine). Then I created a “Custom Hostname” using Cloudflare for Saas (currently testing with test <dot> ffhelper <dot> com
), and validated ownership (all green and marked “active”).
I am using ffhelper <dot> com
as a test end-user, name-servers on GoDaddy, as we cannot control where our end-users have their DNS zones.
I thought the last step would be a CNAME from test.ffhelper.com
to test <dot> valueents <dot> com
, but that results in Error 1014 CNAME Cross-User Banned
.
I read more than 10 of the answered forum questions, and it seems as a non-enterprise user, I am getting stuck at this (from the docs):
Another common cause is connecting a custom domain to an R2 bucket, where the domain is an active zone with the zone hold feature enabled.
How can I fix this? I want to serve static websites from R2 via Custom Hostnames.
Thanks for your help
