Error 1014 even after disabling proxy

We created a CNAME docs.insightiq.ai to point to insightai.stoplight.io with proxy on. We got a 1014 error and realized that insightai.stoplight.io uses Cloudflare. Since then, no matter what we try, we are getting 1014 on our page.
We tried the following:

  1. removed the proxy (orange cloud) from the record. Still getting 1014.
  2. We decided to move away from Cloudflare temporarily while this is sorted and used godaddy dns but surprisingly, we are still getting 1014.
    What can we do to fix this?
