Error 1004 Removing Member from Account

I am receiving the error “This account needs at least one super administrator. You will need to invite another super administrator before you can leave (Code: 1004)” for an account that my primary account email is connected to.

I know this is directly related to trying to remove the account that I am receiving this error with as it contains no domain names or DNS and I have been trying to remove it from being attached to my account. However, there is no way to add another super administrator either like the error is requesting so I am stuck.

I believe this is going to require a higher level of Cloudflare support because I don’t have access to the community through my primary account email either because when I try to sign in to the community with that email address I get an error that says " The change you wanted was rejected.

Maybe you tried to change something you didn’t have access to."

Welcome to the Cloudflare Community. :logodrop:

I know it can be frustrating when something that seems like it should be simple doesn’t work as expected.

Would you mind answering a few questions to see if they can help me find you a solution?

Do you want to be able to use the email address of the account to be removed with Cloudflare again on another account at a future date?
Are there any other users who have been invited to the account?
Does the user account that you are using have super administrator privileges?
Are you trying to remove the only remaining user account?

I ran into a 1004 error when trying to remove a user. It may not be relevant to your situation. In case it is, I have shared a link to some additional detail I posted to another topic.

Do you want to be able to use the email address of the account to be removed with Cloudflare again on another account at a future date?

Yes, the email that needs to be removed from the particular account I am having difficulty with is being used elsewhere and it is my primary email associated with a few other accounts I need the ability to access as a user/member.

Are there any other users who have been invited to the account?
Does the user account that you are using have super administrator privileges?

The account previously had 1 other user who had super administrator privileges, when my email was added to the account it was added as only an ‘Admin’, the super administrator left the account and only my user remains. Now I am running into these issues trying to remove the account and cant add any more members because I am not a “Super Admin”.

Are you trying to remove the only remaining user account?

Yes.

Thanks for the additional detail. It leaves me wondering how the Super Admin account was able to leave, since it should have encountered the same condition of no remaining super admins.

If you are able to log in to the dashboard where you are encountering this error, would you open an account support request and share the ticket number here?

I agree, I have no idea how this should’ve happened.

Forgive my ignorance but could you help me understand how to go about opening a ticket/support request? When I go through the ‘Contact Support’ prompts I am not given this option. Only general community support links are being shown on this support page. My I only use the free version of cloudflare, I figured that might have something to do with the inability to contact support.

Even on a free plan you should be open a support request for an account related issue at support ticket at https://dash.cloudflare.com/?to=/:account/support.

Once you have a ticket open, please be patient. It is a weekend and the support priority on free accounts falls to an as available status.

Thank you very much for your assistance, by the way! I do really appreciate it.

Also, since I am not a super admin and only have regular admin privileges for this account, perhaps that is the reason I am not seeing additional support options?

You should be able to open a support request for your user account no matter what.

I am curious as to what happens when you add a domain to this account. I am wondering if you will be super admin on that domain.

I am little confused by your initial statement that the Cloudflare account had no domains.

The account is empty, has no domains associated with it and is not managing any DNS. That is why I am trying to remove it from being attached to my main cloudflare login. When I log into cloudflare via my main login, I see several accounts at-a-glance that I can click to access, ex: Main Account, Client Account 1, Client Account 2, Client Account 3. The ‘Client Accounts’ are ones where the client is the main super admin that created the account but they’ve added my email as an additional user so I can also access and manage the account from my primary email address without having to log in with theirs. In this case, I am trying to remove one of those client accounts from being accessible/associated with my email address - I no longer want to be a user attached to it because it is an empty account and I don’t want it to show up when I log in to Cloudflare.
