Editing DNS records

Trying to troubleshoot webiste issues and the host of my site tells me I need to change my DNS A record name from my domain name to @. I have tried several times to edit and save and it will just revert back to the domain name. I have tried to add a new record and the message I receive is that the record already exists (not in list though) so it won’t let me add.

My web host tells me the IP address needs to be updated with the A records as my domain is not pinging to the right IP address. However, the IP address that shows in my A record with my domain name is the correct IP address.

So what could be keeping me from editing the name of the A record as requested by my website host?

In the Cloudflare DNS, you enter @ to identify the apex domain but it will show as the domain name when listed. That is normal and isn’t a problem.

Ok thank you for the quick response. We will see what they say!

Missed this bit…

Note that if you are using the Cloudflare proxy, then Cloudflare IP addresses will be seen when the domain is looked up, see…

You may need to set the record to “DNS only” instead of “proxied” so their checker can see the origin IP address you’ve set. You may be able to set it back to “proxied” after the validation, but you’ll need to test that.
