If you recently changed your domain nameservers, regular DNS propagation time usually takes up to 24-48 hours to complete.
The assigned Cloudflare nameservers to your CF account should be used at your domain registrar.
Name Server: bart.ns.cloudflare.com
Name Server: nelci.ns.cloudflare.com
I am afraid you cannot edit them to e.g. bart2 or nelci2.
Furthermore, the particular domain name is registered with Cloudflare Registrar. You cannot change your nameservers if your domain name is registered with Cloudflare Registrar.
6.1 in the Domain Registration Agreement states that you cannot change the nameservers:
6.1 Nameservers . Registrant agrees to use Cloudflare’s nameservers. REGISTRANT ACKNOWLEDGES AND AGREES THAT IT MAY NOT CHANGE THE NAMESERVERS ON THE REGISTRAR SERVICES, AND THAT IT MUST TRANSFER TO A THIRD PARTY REGISTRAR IF IT WISHES TO CHANGE NAMESERVERS.
Unfortunately, only the possible solutin which I can see from the ToS of Cloudflare Registrar and your case: Transfer out and use different domain registar.
You can certainly transfer out after 60 days as per ICANN requirements.
Thanks Fritex, I may have done a st00pid thing, I just purchased the domain in Cloudflare, and I purchased a web hosting in another company, I just wanted to point the newly purchased domain to the newly purchased web hosting. Any ideas to fix this? Thanks
You’re still able to use domain which you’ve purchased at Cloudflare Registrar with your web hosting (my best guess).
Are you using some 3rd-party integrator such as WP Engine, Hostinger, etc. which require from you to point your domain to their nameservers?
I’d check with them, however alongside you’re registered domain at Cloudflare Registrar, you can add your domain name (zone) to your Cloudflare account as a Free plan.
Therefrom, you would Edit the DNS records, create the needed one like A domain.com pointed to the Web hosting provider IP address (where your Website content is hosted) and proxied (just an example here) to make it start working.
Thanks, the company that has the hosting services is Hostgator, they provided the following dns in order to point the Cloudflare domain. (They don’t know the register is Cloudflare, just provided standard instructions to edit the nameservers.)
I believe you can still use and leverage Cloudflare.
Hostgator has great article which DNS records you’d have to create at DNS tab of your domain (zone) under your Cloudflare account:
So, in short, you follow the first article to add your domain to your CF account, if already isn’t.
Then you navigate to the DNS tab, and add the needed DNS records using 2nd article for help how to add, edit or delete DNS records.
Which DNS records you’d need for Hostgator are listed here on 3rd link above.
Thank you, would you please point me to the right direction to include this information, as you can see I´m really n00b in this, and appreciate your feedback and help.
Yes, using the now-known steps, there is another information from HostGator, you could add MX type of the DNS record and email related DNS records under the DNS tab of Cloudflare dashboard, as same as you’ve did for A type.
Great stuff, done all of that already, Thank you for your support, It looks it’s gonna take a while to refresh and see the mx records updated. But so far everything looks ok.
