How can a parked domain with no @ or www records get hits in analytics?

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

Removed all unneeded DNS records
Checked in browser - get “ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED” which is exactly what I want to happen
BUT we get hits in analytics

Was the site working with SSL prior to adding it to Cloudflare?

Yes

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

Try to access the domain - get the correct message “ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED”
Visit analytics and see hits from elsewhere, no analytics for my testing, which is what I expected

The domain has had Cloudflare IPs in the past so either they have been stored somewhere and used so hitting the Cloudflare edge, or they just see the domain uses Cloudflare and hit any Cloudflare proxy IP and request your domain.

Thanks for the info - I’ll just ignore them then

Its the same IP from a high risk ASN and country hitting several similar domains so they may well be just going round looking for targets
