On Friday, March 1st, 2024 I paid for and transferred 20 domains from GoDaddy to Cloudflare – 19 of them transferred successfully.
The remaining domain is stuck at GoDaddy and is now expired - (it expired on the March 2nd) - and the status is “transfer pending”. I have contacted GoDaddy several times and they insist the domain is unlocked and ready to go and the problem is with Cloudflare.
I also found a Cloudflare “Troubleshoot failed domain transfers” page that says:
“Restart your transfer
Log in to Cloudflare dashboard, and select your account and domain.
In the Overview app for your domain, scroll down to Domain Registration.
Select Cancel and Retry.
Once you initiate the retry, reenter your auth code and confirm your WHOIS information.”
I suspect the domain got caught, I see a transfer started before the expiry and canceled after expiry and then initiated again. The manage domains page on your dash shows the transfer as pending and is asking you to approve it at godaddy.
It is worth seeing if that’s an option on the gd dash and to see if they had an auto renew go through between the time of the transfer start and cancelation. Typically registrars enforce that you renew expired domains prior to transfer out.
If the transfer you initiated prior to the expiration date did not process, it’s worth asking gd why not?
they sent me a “this domain must be manually approved via email” email that i did not see and responded to mar 3 - after expiration on mar 2 - guessing that is the problem
also i rec’d an email today (after restarting the process) that basically said “you are all set” - words in quotes below
Is there nothing i can do here - they want $43 to renew it and i am loath to give it to them.
“Your domain transfer is ready to go.
We got your transfer request on March 05, 2024, and we’re just about ready to move bigdatascience.com to the new domain name registrar.
If you’ve changed your mind, you can still put a halt to the process. Just go to your account to decline the transfer before March 09, 2024.”
sorry - had another post but it was closed - tldr - transferred 20 domains from godaddy to cloudflare on march 1st - 19 instantaneous, 1 stuck - no domains were expired when i started - now stuck one iss expired - godaddy refuses to transfer the last one and won’t tell me why - also the have doubled the renewal from $21.99 to $43.98 except… wait for it… now they say i can’t renew and i can’t cancel the transfer - i’ll stop there
