Domain Name Transfer (IN to CF)

What is the name of the domain?

peter-sohn com

What is the issue you’re encountering

Catch-22 … I have the AUTH CODE ready to enter, but CF does not - its fine documentation notwithstanding - EVER ask for it. I wasn’t asked at the other (EXITING NameCheap) end where it was going.

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

Just read all the documentation on CF and Namecheap until my eyes cross. I had what I thought were unrelated problems yesterday, but the host involved on that said, “Something’s wrong with CF in China” - since “confirmed” at CF - and I’m thinking that I have a problem that requires human intervention. I’ll settle for calm, knowledgeable instructions from the community, of course.

That domain isn’t using Cloudflare nameservers yet. You must add the domain to Cloudflare before you can transfer it. The documentation is quite clear on that.

I did just add (at NameCheap [their terminology] CUSTOM nameservers - and those are the “Rocco” and “Raquel” names I often see with the many names I registered directly on CF. Is that what you mean?/Will that solve the problem? When I said Catch-22, I meant: When I say ADD, it insists I go with “transfer” (makes sense), but when I go to TRANSFER, there is absolutely nothing to click or enter or anything. Thanks for your quick reply - VERY deep thanks!

First of all, do you want to transfer your domain to Cloudflare or do you just believe it would solve your problems somehow?

I can see that you changed your nameservers now, but it doesn’t look like you’ve completed the setup process yet.

What is “it”?

Motivation? I’ve been VERY impressed - 100+ reg’d d.n.'s w/ CF - with them so far. I like their “style” and low prices. As you may guess, the domain in question is my name, and I hope to renew it for years and years. Here is what I see when I click on Transfer as soon as I log in:

I don’t see an image, so you can see it at: https://AfterAnnie.com/CF1.png … (1) WHY does it say “no domains available?” Do I have to wait 24 hours or something? (2) Obviously, I can’t click on anything here, which is why “my hair is on fire.” Again thanks for helping… “The Lord” owes you a big favor - I know that I do.

So I guess you are the same person as @mitinventapp ?

It looks like you still haven’t completed the setup process for the domain. Please go to the Overview page and follow the instructions.

As I’m sure you know, “Domain Reg.” (at CF) has 3 sub-choices: Manage, Transfer & Register Domains. The middle one is - YES? - the only one that makes sense for me. “The system” dealt with my “REGISTER” try - as expected - "This name is already registered - are you trying to Transfer It [dope]? Click Transfer to proceed.

I’ve done it all. Unlocked, got an AUTH code. Took off privacy. Changed the DNS… I’m with you - I must have missed something - BUT WHAT?

Have you tried that?

Do you have a link I could follow, because I’ve read LOTS on CF … and tried their AI-driven “self-help.” Could “A” or “TXT” records still at NameCheap be gumming things up?

What you need to do is go to the Overview page of your domain and complete the setup. Can you show a screenshot of that page?

You gotta mean (?) what’s on Namecheap… Here it is:

No, on Cloudflare. This has nothing to do with Namecheap.

Sorry if I seem denser than dense. There’s NOTHING on CF in connection with peter-sohn.com … which, of course, is what I’m struggling with. It’s like a “transplant” that’s been rejected - very much like it. Just substitute “transfer” for “transplant.” If I’ve done everything right at Namecheap - trying to get out their door - how DOES CF know that I want to move to IT, Cloudflare? Those NS entries, Rocco & Racquel have to do with hosting - I thought.

Select your domain: https://dash.cloudflare.com/?to=/:account/:zone/

What do you see on that page (it should be labelled Overview)?

I THINK YOU may have helped me reach a happy ending. Thank you SO VERY much for sticking with me. Almost anyone else would have written me & my “problem” off as insoluble due to user [me] idiocy!

Looks like you’ve managed to fix this and it’s working now over HTTPS using Cloudflare :orange:

THANKS so much. 2 PEOPLE willing (1 surely able, the other one rightly noting “problem solved”) to help a stranger. Somehow, thanking you and “the community” seems inadequate. I know it would be ideal if I could “pay it forward,” but I’ll probably never acquire enough expertise to do so. FWIW, I just want to contrast it with a silly & minor problem I had with a new HP computer yesterday. HOURS on the phone - mostly “on hold” - wrong departments, eventually an outsourced tech support group that wanted a credit card # first thing, AT LEAST 12 HP employees before I got lucky. Maybe, there will come a time when they get support 1/10 as right as C.F. already has!
