Cloudflare has no control over the content that is displayed on a website we do not host. If you feel that a site is engaging in illegal or inappropriate activities, you can submit an abuse report at Abuse approach - Cloudflare.

You will receive a confirmation email with a confirmation code in the Subject. While the Trust and Safety team will review the details of your report, that may be the only reply you receive.

You can also report the site to your relevant local authorities. Complaints cannot be filed via this forum.

When I try to fill out your abuse form it is saying that http://michaelhendry.com is not hosted on Cloudflare servers. However when I go to a website and do a whois it claims it is. Are you able to shed any light on that?

Cloudflare is not generally a hosting company. There are some specialized products that are actually hosting, such as Cloudflare Pages, but most sites that you may think are hosted on Cloudflare are in fact not. The Cloudflare proxy sits between visitors and the actual webserver. You can see a more detailed explanation here.

So is there any recourse for abuse from Cloudflare on a site that is only proxied through Cloudflare and not hosted by Cloudflare?

My 2 cents (I am not a Cloudflare representative or offering legal advice, my own opinion)…

It’s a crappy Chinese site sitting on a domain name they’ve probably picked up when it expired from the previous owner, a known risk for letting domains lapse. If it’s not targetting the person you represent, or hosting illegal or infringing content, or doing anything otherwise illegal in a jurisdiction where you can take action, I don’t see what claim you have to shut it down just because it matches someone’s name and is showing content you don’t like.

If it’s that important, your client should have bought it (it was only registered in September). You could make an offer through a broker to buy the domain name or wait and hope they don’t renew in September 2024 and pick it up then.
