Does Cloudflare protections react to 403/404 Responses from the Origin/Worker?

Hi

I’m looking at using Cloudflare to protect an API. I’m interested to understand how the WAF and or DDOS reacts (if it does) to 403/404 responses from my origin or a worker.

If a client is repeatedly getting error responses, do any of the protections kick in? I looked for the public info and here in the forums, but was unable to find much exact information.

Any guidance appreciated
