Dns testing

I was wondering if anyone can provide any tips on testing my DNS configuration.

I’ve tried to setup a new mail server, but any emails i send don’t seem to reach the server I’m intending them to.

If I use a website like DNS Check and DNS Report Tools - Comprehensive DNS Tests - MxToolBox

and test the mail server I get a message like this:
Connecting to 104.18.40.218
8/22/2019 11:49:22 AM Connection attempt #1 - Unable to connect after 15 seconds. [15.04 sec]

LookupServer 15043ms

I’m guessing that’s a Cloudflare IP address since it’s nothing like mine.

My domain is bestcricketgame.com

How can I find out which IP mail is being delivered to?

It’s possibly a propagation issue but I don’t think so.

Any tips on how to further investigate this would be appreciated!

thx

You cant test bestcricketgame.com as that is proxied. You need to test your actual SMTP host

thanks for that, i thought I’d sleep on it in case it was a propagation issue, and voila! it works.

just one more thing, does it matter that I get a warning for the mx record that ‘this record exposes your origin IP’?

thanks again

It matter in the sense of that it does exactly what it says. If you want to keep your IP address hidden away behind Cloudflare that might be an issue, but there is nothing you can do except for switching your web servers address at this point and keeping it separate from your mail environment.
