What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

contacted Godaddy, the hosting company, and they said the IP it currently points to is wrong
this was checked using whats my dns
I confirmed that the current resolved IP (104.21.82.181) is different to what the A record is in Cloudflare (92.204.212.184)
GoDaddy confirmed the Cloudflare setting is right, so I don’t know where the 104 IP address comes from

I should add that this started erroring last night.
Before then, it had been fine for ages, and I’ve made no changes to the DNS settings recently.

Your DNS record is proxied and so Cloudflare IP addresses are returned. See here…

A 524 error means Cloudflare is not getting a response from the server in time. To debug, set your DNS record to “DNS only” instead of “Proxied” and see if the timeout still occurs (you won’t see a Cloudlfare error, just a long wait). If so, contact your host and get them to fix it. Once fixed you can re-enable Cloudflare again.

Thank you. I have to go back to phoning GoDaddy again (I know!)

Make sure to pause Cloudflare, or set the DNS to “DNS only” first, otherwise they will keep sending you back to Cloudflare.
