DKIM Record directly to Cloudflare?

Hi everyone!

I’m on an old GRID email hosting plan at Mediatemple.

They said that the GRID does not support DKIM signatures.

Is there a way to add them to the Cloudflare side DNS?

Also in general should my private key not be in the TXT files of my DNS?

This is all very new to me and trying to learn the ropes but there is surprisingly little documentation I’ve found in regard to a Cloudflare setup. I thought it was a name selector._domainkey issue (which I had set to dkim._domainkey) but it was never gelling.

Any info and help would be much appreciated!

Thank you,

Matt

DKIM is a system where mail servers sending email will sign the messages so that other mail servers can verify that that mail server is actually authenticated and allowed to send mail for that domain.

While you do need to set up DNS records to let the other mail servers know which signing keys are allowed, the entire protocol is built on the sending mail server encrypting it’s email - the DNS records themselves don’t enable DKIM and the trust it provides.

For that reason, CF or any other dns provider can’t alone set up DKIM for you.

Thank you for responding Judge.

This makes me think I won’t really be able to set it up on this email hosting account.

SPF and DMARC are Greens on MX Tools, and I have a 9/10 score on mail-tester.

I do have a more robust set up with CNAME - DKIM on Mailchimp.

Guess I’ll have to live with that :man_shrugging:
