This tutorial covers adding general DNS records and specifically A, AAAA, CNAME, MX and TXT records.


  • Go to the DNS app of your Cloudflare dashboard.
  • Enter your credentials and click ‘Log In’
  • Click the domain in question
  • Click image

[Please note, the content of the records below are solely for example purposes and should be replaced by valid records with content provided by your web host]

Please select which record you need help adding:

A Record

  • Select type A
  • Enter the name as @ for your root domain, or the name of the subdomain
  • Enter the IP address of your server, contact your web host if you are unsure of this value
  • Set the proxy status based on whether you want the traffic to be routed through Cloudflare, or in DNS-Only mode. If this is a verification record or for non web traffic, it should not be proxied.
  • Click Save
AAAA Record

  • Select type AAAA
  • Enter the name as @ for your root domain, or the name of the subdomain
  • Enter the IP address of your server, contact your web host if you are unsure of this value
  • Set the proxy status based on whether you want the traffic to be routed through Cloudflare, or in DNS-Only mode. If this is a verification record or for non web traffic, it should not be proxied.
  • Click Save
CNAME Record

  • Select type CNAME
  • Enter the name as @ for your root domain, or the name of the subdomain
  • Enter the hostname to point to, contact your web host if you are unsure of this value
  • Set the proxy status based on whether you want the traffic to be routed through Cloudflare, or in DNS-Only mode. If this is a verification record or for non web traffic, it should not be proxied.
  • Click Save
MX Record

  • Select type MX
  • Enter the name as @ for your root domain, or the name of the subdomain
  • Enter the hostname of you mail server, contact your email provider if you are unsure of this value
  • Enter the priority, contact your email provider if you are unsure of this value
  • Click Save
TXT Record

  • Select type TXT
  • Enter the name as @ for your root domain, or the name of the subdomain
  • Enter the content required, contact your provider if you are unsure of this value
  • Click Save

Other records that are not directly covered in this tutorial can be added in a similar way via the DNS app in your dashboard
