Hi, This is not my area of expertise so hoping for some reassurance. We need to completely remove a subdomain record as if it never existed. Do I simply delete the CNAME record for the subdomain?
Yes, if you want to completely remove a subdomain, simply deleting the CNAME record for that subdomain in your DNS settings will suffice. Here are the steps:
- Navigate to the Cloudflare Dashboard (dash.cloudflare.com)
- Click the domain for which you want to delete the subdomain.
- Go to the DNS app.
- Locate the CNAME record for your subdomain, and click the ‘Delete’ button next to it.
- Confirm that you want to delete the record.
After you’ve deleted it, the subdomain will no longer resolve, effectively removing it.

Thanks! I was hoping it was that simple.

Assuming you don’t have a wildcard record in which case it will still resolve as the wildcard record covers the FQDN and will resolve to the origin of the wildcard record.

Nope, no wildcard. Thanks for the tip!
