Custom 400 description removed when proxy is enabled

We have customized descriptions for various 400 errors and when we use the site without the cloudflare they come through fine:

HTTP/1.1 400 Payment method failed verification.

When the proxy is enabled they are all replaced with the default 400 Bad Request:

HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request

Is there a way for Cloudflare to forward on the custom description?
