Critical: Cloudflare Blocking Domain I Don't Control in Any Account (Business Impac

What is the name of the domain?

What is the issue you’re encountering

My domain savantgrooming.com is blocked by Cloudflare, preventing Shopify from issuing an SSL/TLS certificate and completing domain onboarding. I do not have a Cloudflare account associated with this domain. The domain is currently managed through GoDaddy, with default nameservers and correct DNS records pointing to Shopify. Despite this, Shopify support confirms the domain is still being intercepted or blocked by Cloudflare, likely due to a legacy configuration from a previous platform (e.g., WordPress). I need Cloudflare to remove any ban, block, or zone that is still associated with savantgrooming.com so Shopify can issue an SSL certificate and connect the domain properly. Let me know once you’ve posted — or if you want help tagging moderators or posting on Twitter as backup.

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

Hello team,

I’m the owner of savantgrooming.com, and Shopify has confirmed that Cloudflare is blocking my domain from issuing an SSL certificate.

I do not have a Cloudflare account, but it appears the domain was previously connected to a platform (likely WordPress) that used Cloudflare in the background.

I’ve already emailed [email protected] (starting May 19) and submitted support requests via the public form — no response after several days.

GoDaddy has confirmed they now fully control my DNS and I’ve met all Shopify configuration requirements. The domain is completely disconnected from Cloudflare from my end, but Cloudflare is still intercepting the domain and blocking certificate issuance.

This is actively blocking my ecommerce business from launching, and I urgently need Cloudflare to remove any zone, legacy configuration, or block on savantgrooming.com.

Can a moderator or employee please help escalate this?

Thank you,
Ethan Mortenson

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

:receipt: Steps to Reproduce:
Go to Shopify > Settings > Domains

Enter the domain: savantgrooming.com

Attempt to connect and verify the domain

Shopify runs an internal check and confirms:
→ Cloudflare is blocking the domain
→ TLS/SSL certificate cannot be issued

I verified all DNS settings in GoDaddy are correct:

A record → 23.227.38.65

CNAME for www → shops.myshopify.com

GoDaddy default nameservers are active

DNSSEC is disabled

I do not have a Cloudflare account

Shopify support confirms the domain is still blocked by Cloudflare

No, the domain previously used Cloudflare directly.

A historical WHOIS lookup shows the domain savantgrooming.com was directly active on Cloudflare (using Cloudflare nameservers bruce.ns.cloudflare.com and love.ns.cloudflare.com) from Jan 2024 until just a few days ago, 2025-05-19.

Since the domain hasn’t recently expired and changed hands, this means someone who had access to your domain’s registrar account to be able to change the nameservers surely used the domain on Cloudflare for over a year.

Though this may rarely turn out to be a bug, by far the most common reasons for such a ban of a domain on Cloudflare are an outstanding bill or some ToS violation from a previous use of the domain on Cloudflare.

Unfortunately, the community cannot assist you with this. Please open a support ticket so Cloudflare support staff can assist you: https://dash.cloudflare.com/?to=/:account/support

As to how Cloudflare is even able to “intercept” your domain and do this, note that Shopify is a Cloudflare customer, and a lot of their infrastructure runs on Cloudflare. So when you attempt to use a feature in Shopify, Shopify may turn around to do something in Cloudflare.

From a technical point of view, this is how Cloudflare can seemingly “intercept” your domain and block its usage on their network.

If Shopify specifically asked you to email [email protected], then this is likely Abuse/ToS related (from the previous use of Cloudflare) and only Cloudflare’s Trust & Safetety team (who handle this email address) can handle this, and you may just have wait for their response.

Good luck!
