No Option To Create Child Zone for Sub Domain
DNS records
Creating a separate subdomain zone in Cloudflare requires an Enterprise plan…
Otherwise you can just add subdomain DNS records within the zone for your domain in Cloudflare, or you can delegate the subdomain to another DNS provider using NS records.
Hi We have an enterprise plan. However there is nothing showing that allows us to create a sub-domain or child zone. We were advised to add the sub domain as a new domain, however that shows as a separate domain against a free plan. we need to create a child zone from our parent domain. I’m sure I’m missing something but I can’t see what.
Our domain is currently with another registrar and delegated to Cloudflare for DNS management. The docs state to create a new child zone from the parent ‘apex’ domain but we have no option to do that anywhere.
Our other registrar also has no options to delegate a sub-domain either.
The docs state:
However we have no option to create a new zone anywhere.
Just press “Add a site” as if you were adding another domain to your account, but enter subdomain.avfc.co.uk
as the site to add.
We already done that but the domain is pending name servers which we can’t delegate from our current registrar. Having re-read the docs I think I need to create 2 new NS records for the sub-domain in our parent domain that point to the new Cloudflare Name Servers listed in the new domain. According to the docs this should then make the child zone active. I’ll try it an find out
That’s exactly what you need to do. The dashboard still says “registrar” but for subdomain zones you add the 2 nameservers as NS records in the parent zone. If you use DNSSEC, you would also add the DS records to the parent zone.
All working now. The docs could be a tad clearer, especially in regards to having domain delegations from a 3rd party. It reads that the sub-domain names servers should be delated at the 3rd party registrar end. Where as actually you’re adding NS records in the parent zone on Cloudflare that point to new Name servers for the sub-domain in Cloudflare.
