Correct Google Workspace Gmail settings

Hi All! I know there are lots of questions (and answers) about the proper DNS settings for using Gmail (with Google Workspace) with Cloudflare. I’m still confused, though, as it seems that there is conflicting information.

So I after Google Domains announced the registrar business to Squarespace, I transferred my domains to another registrar (Porkbun). And then did this:

  1. Changed the nameservers (on Porkbun) to Cloudflare’s armfazh.ns.cloudflare.com and mimi.ns.cloudflare.com

  2. On Cloudlfare, setup A records (beige[dot]company & www) to point to my web host (151.101.130.159)

  3. Added the MX records as listed here https://apps.google.com/supportwidget/articlehome?article_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.google.com%2Fa%2Fanswer%2F174125&assistant_event=welcome&assistant_id=gsuitemxrecords-gixvmm&product_context=174125&product_name=UnuFlow&trigger_context=a

  4. Added TXT v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all

But it doesn’t seem to work correctly. Some emails are coming through, some emails (e.g. from clients) are not being delivered.

Is there anything wrong with the above setting? For example, should I use the MX settings as described here https://apps.google.com/supportwidget/articlehome?article_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.google.com%2Fa%2Ftopic%2F1611273&assistant_event=welcome&assistant_id=gsuitemxrecords-gixvmm&product_context=1611273&product_name=UnuFlow&trigger_context=a?? So use smtp [dot] google [dot] com?

Any help (or at least a hint) would be super welcome!

Thanks!
Alex

Hello alex143

Your settings look primarily correct. However, it’s important to note that the MX record should point to ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM as the primary mail server.

Make sure to replace the generic MX records with the Google Workspace specific MX entries, as outlined in this document: Google Workspace MX record values - Google Workspace Admin Help.

Make sure each MX record correctly points to Google’s mail servers with appropriate priority values:

If the issue still persists, it might help to remove any conflicting MX records. Also, check if the propagations have fully taken place; it can take some time for the DNS changes to fully propagate globally.
