Hi there. I only have basic knowledge and am new to Cloudflare. Our domain and email hosting are registered with Ionos. However, our website is in AWS Lightsail. Currently the Ionos nameservers point to AWS, and the AWS DNS point to Ionos (for the email). I’m confused. Which nameservers or DNS am I supposed to change to begin using Cloudflare please?
What feature, service or problem is this related to?
You need to change the nameservers configured at Ionos (currently 4 AWS nameservers) to the 2 allocated Cloudflare nameservers.
Before doing that, make sure you have all the DNS records needed set in your Cloudflare DNS to point at your web and mail hosting to avoid downtime when changing the nameservers.
Cloudflare may detect some/all of these records automatically during the setup stage, but check that all the records from your AWS DNS are copied over to Cloudflare.
If the Ionos nameservers are edited to point at Cloudflare, and no longer point at the website at AWS, will the website not become unreachable? This is what the AWS support very clearly told us - or have we been misinformed?
If I understand correctly I must:
a) change all the DNS records currently listed in AWS over to Cloudflare, in order to point at Ionos, for the email to work.
b) then I must change the nameserver records at Ionos, from pointing at AWS to pointing to Cloudflare.
