Community Tip - Fixing Error 501: Not implemented

Error
Try the suggestions in this Community Tip to help you fix “Error 501: Not implemented”.

Background
An Error 501: Not implemented happens when your origin server returns that error to Cloudflare. Contact your hosting provider and have them review your server logs to investigate why your server is returning that error.

Quick Fix Ideas

  1. The error may be related to chunk size. For files larger than 5 MB, the minimum chunk size is 5 MB; for files smaller than 5 MB, you must upload the file in one chunk. We don’t allow you to upload a small file in multiple pieces.

  2. If you are seeing this error when using Python, make sure everything in your Python enviroment is installed correctly and perform a re-install if necessary.

  3. This 501 error is received when the server does not support the facility required. This is a specific error caused by your origin server configuration. A 501 error is not something you can fix, but rather will require a fix by the web server administrator who manages the website and server you are trying to access.

  4. If you are seeing this error when making a database call, check to see what address your website is using to communicate with the database. It should be set to the localhost address, 127.0.0.1. If this is set to the origin address, it won’t work correctly.

  5. Failing the above, contact Cloudflare Customer Support as indicated below and include time stamped log files and indicate what commands are resulting in the error. If this is happening on file upload, include a copy of the file.
