CNAME to cloudflare-ipfs.com has no orange cloud -- can't apply page rules

The setup is:

  1. root domain example.com points via CNAME to www.example.com
  2. www.example.com points via CNAME to Cloudflare-ipfs.com

Wanted:

  1. Ability to apply page rules (always https, root to www redirection) to example.com

Problem:
Neither example.com nor www.example.com are proxied (have no orange clouds).

I suspect this is related to The orange to orange problem.

Although I don’t see this as an issue following this guide…
