CNAME records don't resolve

Somehow for the domain the CNAME records don’t resolve. We tried removing/adding the domain, nothing helped. See screenshot, what is going on?

You have two issues…

Firstly, you need to either disable DNSSEC at your registrar, or enable it at Cloudflare and copy the DS records to your registrar from your dashboard here…

Secondly, a domain name cannot have a CNAME at its root, it must be an A or AAAA record. Cloudflare lets you create a CNAME for it for convenience, but when queried it will always be flattened to comply with this requirement and so not return “CNAME” but the A/AAAA records to which the CNAME points.

Usually where you CNAME to an external host, you have to CNAME the www (as you have done, and works as you would expect) and for the root domain create a redirect (on Cloudflare, use redirect Rules) to www instead.

Thanks! It turned out that DNSSEC was indeed the problem, we disabled it at the registrar.
