Cloudflare SSL/TLS significantly slows down our server

We host our website on GCP and use Cloudflare DNS with SSL/TLS (Full mode). With DNS-only configuration, the latency (measured by ping command) is about 5ms to 10ms. However, when we turn Proxied on (i.e., SSL/TLS support), the latency increases to about 150ms. This is not good. In fact, it is pretty slow. The hosted VM is in asia-east1-b on GCP.

To test the problem, we bought another SSL certificate from Godaddy and installed the cert into nginx hosted on VM of GCP in the same zone. There is almost no effects to the latency on our own installed certificate.

Could anyone give us some helps or suggestions to fix this problem?

Can you post a screenshot of https://cloudflare-test.judge.sh?

Hi @sandro,

Here is the result:

HIS.DENTALL.IO
LAX
LOS ANGELES INTERNATIONAL
IPV4
HTTP/2
FIRST PING: 158
SECOND PING: 155

You are connecting to the Los Angeles data centre. Depending on where you are this will mean at least a route from the West Coast of the US to Asia, which can take quite some time.

Could we fix this problem?? What kinds of configurations we need to set up?

Seems that we upgrade to Pro plan will fix this problem?

Not necessarily and hence I asked for a screenshot.

Where are you located?

Taiwan
Our servers are hosted on asia-east1-b zone (aka Taiwan) on GCP.

In this case the following applies
