Cloudflare Server TTFL time increased to 20-30seconds+

Been trying to figure out whats happening here.
Time to TTFL is 30s+ when cache is disabled, or when page has not been loaded for a while and the cache is enabled - presumably being re-cached.

Chrome indicates that there is a delay or pause from when the server is contacted to anything being returned. No errors in the logs on the server, it has to be DNS or something up with the cache.

We are using https: and the cache and have DNS with Cloudflare
However, if I bypass by adding the domain’s IP address in my local hosts file, and connect using http (we have flex SSL)
Pages load snappily.
The server has a low load, low memory usage so its not under provisioned.
I have opened a ticket but just get the “we’re really busy try the community forums” aautomated message. Not very satisfactory, I am a paying customer and would like some insight as to what is going on.

Thank you for reaching out and letting us know about the slow performance you’re experiencing on our website.

To help us understand and address the issue more effectively, we recommend you to test the performance of your website using the Speed Test under Speed → Observatory in the Cloudflare Dashboard.
You can then find more details here on how to understand the results.

In addition to that, please also share the following information with us, so we can investigate further:

  • What you are using to measure and test site performance. If you are using an online reporting tool, for example, please provide us with the URL linking to the report

  • A specific URL that is slow

  • The output from running the following command:

curl -svo /dev/null -w "Connect: %{time_connect} \n TTFB: %{time_starttransfer} \n Total time: %{time_total} \n" https://<SLOW URL>
  • The output of the following webpage in a browser: http:///cdn-cgi/trace

  • A HAR file demonstrating the issue from your browser

  • An MTR or traceroute to <HOSTNAME> from an affected device

  • Any information from any other tools showing the performance issue: please provide details on how did you measure or where did you get the information

Have you found a solution to this issue? I think we are experiencing something similar, starting just about the same date you posted here, when routing is crossing through EWR Cloudflare location. You can see which colo your site is passing through by adding this path to the end of your domain.
