Some of my domains, all of which point to the same origin, are reporting 522. If I bypass Cloudflare entirely and route the DNS directly to the origin server all regions are able to access the sites.
As of this writing https://www.clanaod.net works and https://clanaod.net does not from several location in the US (a VPN to Europe seems to avoid the issue). I presently have a rule bypassing all Cloudflare asset caching because of other regional issues (with the rule removed, the Netherlands report 522 errors) so I’m just using Cloudflare as a proxy/ddos protection.
Both work for me from the US. A 522 error typically happens when Cloudflare requests to the origin (your webserver) get blocked. If it comes up again or if you’re still having issues, review the suggestions in this Community Tip for troubleshooting ideas.
We do not implement any IP filtering or rate limiting nor does the host for the server. I’ve already checked with the provider and they are not reporting any current issues.
Support may be able to help you trace this down a bit. When you contact them, at some point they’ll ask you to give them an MTR or traceroute from your origin web server to a Cloudflare IP address that most commonly connected to your origin web server before the issue occurred. Identify a connecting Cloudflare IP recorded in the origin web server logs. And, they’ll ask if you can share the details from the hosting provider’s investigation such as pertinent logs or conversations. After you contact them and receive a number, share it here and reply back to the ticket with a link this thread.
