After I read the pricing page (Pricing · Cloudflare R2 docs), I’m still not sure how does the cloudflare R2 limitation works. Does this mean I get 10GB free every month? Does the limit reset after a month? What will happen to the files of previous months after the limit resets?
It means at any time, the total storage used cannot exceed 10GB.
Think of this as the size of a box. You cannot fill the box beyond its capacity. Similarly, if you have a 10GB flash drive, you cannot store more than 10GB of data on it.
But you don’t get a new container every month, nor do you get a new 10GB flash drive every month… but you’ll always have your one box or flash drive to use as you please: you can always remove older items and add new ones until you hit the limit.
Of course, you can always buy a bigger box or flash drive – and you can always pay for more R2 storage.
If you use more than 10GB, you will automatically be charged every month for the storage you do use, based on daily average peak. So for example if you spike in usage to 15GB, each day it will accrue charges until you go back below 10GB. These are then collected and billed based on your usual monthly billing cycle. Note also that if you owe below $0.50 this will not be collected until it goes above $0.50.
Yes, after some time with an overdue invoice (typically 5 days) your access to your storage will be disabled. If you pay your dues in a timely manner after that then you will regain access to your storage, however if you do not for an extended period of time (at least a month, probably more) your storage may be deleted.
