Cloudflare NS set in registrar are different than the ones in the DNS zone

What is the name of the domain?

What is the issue you’re encountering

Cloudflare name servers mismatch in DNS zone and what is configured in GoDaddy, can’t update

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

Cloudflare NS set in registrar are different than the ones in the DNS zone

We have a domain that as acquired in GoDaddy, the Cloudflare servers configured there are gigi and phil. However, the respective Cloudflare DNS zone shows we should be using Audrey and Norman. This is also affecting new TXT and CNAME records we try to create, they’re not being propagated.

We tried updating the configured servers to be the proper ones in GoDaddy, audrey and norman, this caused all the old records to stop working and the new ones (previously not working) to start working. We had to rollback the change

So it seems we can’t update the servers in GoDaddy without breaking everything and we can’t create new records because they don’t get propagated as the servers in GoDaddy are misconfigured.

Without the domain it’s hard to check, but usually this means you have added your domain to 2 separate Cloudflare accounts. Each will have their own DNS records and require the use of a different pair of Cloudflare nameservers, and the pair you set at Godaddy will determine which account zone is used for the domain.

Either you need to use the account you are logged in to, set the nameservers at Godaddy to the nameservers for that account and set the DNS records there, or you will need to locate and log in to the other account and use the nameservers for that one.

That’s what we tried, updating to the name servers showed in the Cloudflare account and it broke all the records, it seemed like it rolled back to an older snapshot of the DNS records we had, CNAMES pointing to no longer active IPs and manually updating them didn’t do anything.

After reverting everything came back up. Is there a way to update the nameservers in GoDaddy without being disruptive?

What is the domain name and can you show a screenshot of your DNS records, including the nameservers at the bottom and the bar at the top that looks like this…

The zone in the account you are logged in to has the status “Finish setup” which means you haven’t selected a plan (even though it shows “Free plan” next to it) and the domain won’t resolve in Cloudflare nameservers yet.

Go to the domain overview page and select the Free plan there. Then you can change the nameservers at Godaddy to the 2 shown and the DNS records in the account will start to resolve.

Thanks, so your first post was very useful, turns out in there are 2 accounts, within the organization, I got access to the wrong one.
