So, I’m using FDM (Free Download Manager) and I’ve found…probably due to a change made to Cloudflare’s code in the backend that I can no longer download zip files from an adult site I use (I’ll mention it if needed, I know some forums frown on linking adult sites). I think it’s also extended into other websites, but I can’t say for certain on that yet.
I was wondering if that’s by design or not and if It might continue to happen to increase security across websites. Thanks!
Site owners are fully in charge of the configuration of these security tools, not Cloudflare. Even when Cloudflare maintains a filter of some sort, site owners are the ones who choose to enable such filters, and they’re the only ones who can add a custom rule for a subset of their users to bypass the filter they enabled.
So if you have any issues with any site, please get in touch with the individual site owner(s) for assistance. In no way will Cloudflare override a site owner’s security configuration for a random internet user.
May I ask if you’re using Cloudflare WARP?
If so, are you added to the team that has got policy restrictions which prevents you from accessing those sites or files?
Otherwise, if the Website’s use Cloudflare, but the files are huge in filesize (e.g. more than 500MB), therefrom if you’re downloading it longer than 100s then the default timeout issue occurrs.
You cannot impact onto it, rather contact Webmaster about it or should find another way.
Furthermore, the Website owners should try to find another way for their customers and visitors.
Well, that figures…I just got off the support side with the website (before this) and they said it was an issue with Cloudflare (I don’t think the person I was talking with was necessarily in charge of the coding).
I do think you’re onto something fritex. It doesn’t seem to make much of a difference currently, I have WARP on my laptop, but not on my desktop. I download the files using my desktop and have that HTTP Error 403 message when I do so. If it IS the larger files I guess that makes sense. There are links for individual file downloads on the site or a download as a zip file option, so the files are often large so it might be running directly into that.
That being said, I am not part of ‘the team that has got policy restrictions’…as far as I know. I didn’t know that was even a thing before now and not relevant to the desktop as it’s not installed there.
So I guess I should come back to their website and share these points with them
