What is the issue you’re encountering

Email forwarding to google group is blocked

What steps have you taken to resolve the issue?

  • forwarding to single address works fine
  • DNS entries include DMARC but as the email is not originating from cloudflare, there is no DKIM record set manually. It looks like this is automacally taken care of (Email Forwarding DKIM Key)

What are the steps to reproduce the issue?

send any email to the address that is forwarding

to clarify, there are several email addresses set up on the domain with email routing set to forward to various addresses, mostly in gmail. Some of them are routed to google group addresses ([email protected]).

The google group is set up with no moderation or other filtering rules (it works fine to send emails directly to it and I have used it for forwarding in the past when the domain was hosted in google domains). I can see the bounced emails in the activity logs of the email routing tab in the cloudflare dashboard and for the ones I have managed to retrieve, there DKIM errors. I can forward headers if this would help.

I have seen the same thing with multiple email forwarding providers. I believe that Google Groups is blocking these. It would be nice to have some insight into email delivery after forwarding, but unless there is a non-delivery sent back, which I haven’t seen, forwarding to a Google Group appears to be a black hole currently.
