This isn’t going to work. What you need to do is (delete those NS records and) manage your DNS on Cloudflare. You can use any hosting by setting the proper records. Wix has instructions here:
Thank you. As this site is a group project among our kids’ friends, our (my family’s) part is get the domain plus many other aspects of the project, while the other family is primarily responsible for designing the site on WIX. We will have to get the records from them. Thanks again!
I tried the instructions in the tutorial. WIX’s official instructions now asked for changing Cloudflare’s nameservers to WIX’s, which Cloudflare wouldn’t allow. WIX’s instruction after that is to ask Cloudflare to allow it; there is no such option on Cloudflare either. The tutorial document also said to look for A Record and CNAME on Wix’s domain dashboard. There are no such records available either. I had to unlink Wix to my owned domain so at least I have a public-facing site. Any suggestions?
I don’t know anything about Wix other than what’s in that help article I linked, but it does suggest that after choosing “Connect a Domain” that they have support for automatic configuration with Cloudflare DNS.
They also detail the manual process where it shows you an A record and a CNAME that should be added; it sounds overly complicated but according to that documentation you should be able to get to that point with several clicks. But the automatic setup sounds more promising.
Wix supports multiple ways to connect your domain, so there’s not one single “Wix official instruction”. The link you were given earlier goes to Wix’s website and is also a “Wix official instruction”. Following the steps outlined by Wix in that link will solve your problem.
@i40west The automatic process WIX started gave me the two NS records in Cloudflare, the page that I showed earlier which you said wouldn’t work. I will keep trying.
Okay, if that’s what their automatic thing does, then it’s completely broken and won’t work, and you should go the manual route instead. It’s puzzling that they would do something like that.
Going through WIX’s process as the video showed, currently WIX only provides the instruction saying change the NS to WIX, which apparently does not work in Cloudflare. WIX does not provide A record or CNAME record, or at least I cannot find anywhere their video said should exist.
The only thing that I can see, that may potentially work, in a manual way is to move the domain to WIX, or pay the $200/month fee to Cloudflare to allow for changing the NS (or that’s how I understand it). It is a budding project that we cannot justify a $200/month fee yet just to have the domain pointed to the actual site.
I haven’t used Wix myself, but the question about connecting a Cloudflare domain to Wix comes up fairly frequently.
So far, the Pointing Method seems to have worked. I’d be surprised if they disabled this method, as the NS method wouldn’t work for a lot of people.
I would try to connect a domain myself, but that requires a Wix premium plan, which I’m not paying for trying to connect a domain.
Could you maybe show a screenshot of what the menu looks like after you clicked the I already own this domain button on Wix?
Cloudflare never allows you to change the nameserver, no matter what plan you are using.
That is certainly an option, though it shouldn’t be necessary.
