Cloudflare didn't use the nearest data center to our largest visitor. How to manually select data center?

Hello all!

We have two questions:

  1. Why Cloudflare doesn’t use the nearest data center to our largest visitor?
  2. Is there a way to manually select data center to a specific location?

We just recently using pro account, but we see no significant performance improvement.

According to analytics, most of our users are located in Taiwan (more than 90%).
Some of them from the US (about 5%) and then Japan (about 1%).

But when we go to (yes, we changed to our domain). It says colo=LAX when my location is loc=TW. Which is weird because according to documentation, Cloudflare will choose data center based on user location, then it should be in Taiwan not in Los Angeles.

I thinks it is because nearest != cheapest. Sometimes, the bandwidth cost to the closest PoPs is higher than a further PoPs. This has been the case with several ISP. Do you happen to use HiNet as your ISP? If so, that will explain why you are directed to the LAX PoP. See this post for more details.
