What does this mean?
It means that when I change my name servers, my site crashes. It shuts down…kaput! Nothing to see. No pages show. It just seems gone!
What SSL mode are you currently using on Cloudflare? It should be Full (Strict).
Also, can you change the nameservers back to Cloudflare, but keep the DNS records in DNS-Only mode for now?
Can’t set SSL to Full in the free version. I am trying to see if this will work for me before paying for a subscription.

Correction: I just set SSL to Full (Strict). I had tried to set it to **Strict (SSL-Only Origin Pull).

A record - @(root) - mydomain.com…correct?
All DNS records should be the same as on your current DNS servers before you switch them.
An A record points to your server’s IP address, not to a name. Or what is the question?
Okay, but do I create an “A” record, using “@” for the root, pointing to my IP address (67.227.152.74)(entered in the IPv4 box)?
Yes, exactly. @ is just a shortcut instead of writing your full domain.
