Changing A Record for Google Hosting site, causes 522 Error

Hi. We have been building our site on Google Cloud Hosting, via a temporary domain, and pointing it to GCH via Cloudflare’s A Record in DNS.

The site is ready. All Wordpress records have been changed from the temp URL to the correct URL.

When we use a HOSTS files to point the domain to the External IP in GCH, it doesn’t load.If we change the A Record just to see if it does in fact work, again, it doesn’t load.

As far as I know, you don’t set the domain name within GCH, you just point the A Record IP over.

Can anyone help with any ideas on this please?

The two core domain records in the WP Options table are both changed too.

Thanks for your time. Hopefully someone has come across this before.

Hi @simon4, can you let Support know? We saw a few 522s earlier from one of our data centers and I’d like Support to know you hit this as well. If you open a ticket, please share the number here as I’d like to track it.

To contact Cloudflare Customer Support, login & go to https://dash.cloudflare.com/?account=support and select get more help. If you receive an automatic response, please reply back and let them know it’s still an issue.

With that being said, here is a bit of background on 522s in case what you’re seeing is unrelated to the issues we observed earlier, Community Tip - Fixing Error 522: Connection timed out.

All done. It was strange because if we look at it on our test domain, it works fine. But update the A Record on the live domain to the same as the test one, and it’s a 522.

We did update the DB so old URL is replaced with new, but as I say, it failed.

An update on this.
We have entered the URL of the logo, using the HOSTS file to fake the live domain, and even that doesn’t load.

We thought it might be a wordpress issue, but clearly it is something else.

I don’t recall telling GCH that this is for a particular domain so I am lost as to the cause of the issue.
