I am not receiving verification emails from certain websites and apps. My server says I need to go the the cloudflare dashboard change the MX record and A (mail) record to " DNS only".
If you could explain how I do this, that would be greatly appreciated.

On the DNS page of your dashboard, you will see a list of records.
There will likely be one with type MX that points to mail.yourdomain.tld. If that’s the case, find the record with type A with the name mail and click edit next to it. There should then be a toggle by the 
to turn it to 
DNS Only.
